Making Pure Water Available

Every year, the Edison Universe honors outstanding innovators with their coveted Edison Awards. This Herman Trend Alert is the first of many highlighting the Gold Award winners.

The human body is 70 percent water; we, as human beings, require a large quantity of water to stay healthy. At the same time, use of bottle water has contributed to the five state-size gyres of plastic waste in our world's oceans. Not only is bottled water 2,900 times more expensive than tap water, but it also burdens the environment and oil market with the equivalent of tens of thousands of gas guzzling delivery trucks.

To respond to the need for clean drinking water, serial entrepreneur Steve Kuzara created Vyykn, a global-network of computer controlled drinking water filtration stations. These systems use tap water and produce water purer than bottled. With a futuristic design and scientific grade sensors, Vyykn stations serve multiple water types, including oxygenated and ionized versions, waters that taste far superior to bottled waters. Based on a subscription model, Vyykn's water systems offer a superior level of trust over bottled water at a fraction of the cost.

Each Vyykn subscriber receives a reusable stainless steel bottle with RFID and electronic tags and serial number attached. The tag allows access to any system around the globe and tracks the users water consumption in the cloud on your desktop, tablet, and/or mobile device on the subscriber's data dashboard.

In areas throughout the globe, some bottled waters and tap water are nearly identical. Sometimes bottled water drinkers are surprised to learn that their beloved brands are, in fact, adulterated with sodium and magnesium, purportedly to "enhance the taste" or to "provide needed electrolytes". Actually rather than quenching thirst, this "junk water" makes some people thirstier than they were before they took a drink. For less than $3 USD per month, Vyykn provides a subscription service that offers unlimited refills of great-tasting, energizing water.

Already installed in the United States at Microsoft and Electronic Arts (EA), the water is also available at selected gyms. Outside of the US, it is available in Canada, Costa Rica, Russia, and in Australia at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Melbourne. For more information, visit VyyknWater.com.

Once Vyykn's installed base reaches a critical mass, expect to see the familiar stainless steel bottles hanging from purses, backpacks, and bicycles worldwide. Vyykn is providing an important service at a time when people can really use it. Their key will be to build their installed base as fast as possible.
