GREENSBORO, NC. Joyce Gioia (joy-ya), a workforce futurist, author, and consultant to management has earned the Certified Speaking Professional (CSP) designation. Established in 1980, the CSP is the speaking profession’s international measure of speaking expertise and skill. Fewer than 10 percent of the speakers who belong to the International Federation for Professional Speakers hold this professional designation. The CSP designation is conferred by the National Speakers Association and the International Federation of Professional Speakers only on accomplished professional speakers who have earned it by meeting strict criteria. CSPs must document a proven track record of continuing speaking experience and expertise as well as a commitment to ongoing education, outstanding client service, and ethical behavior. Gioia is one of 35 professionals to earn the CSP in the class of 2005. This year’s class of CSPs will be honored during a ceremony on July 10 at the 2005 convention of the National Speakers Association in Atlanta. In practice since 1984, Gioia has been speaking professionally since 1993. She has co-authored five books, including Business Best Seller “Impending Crisis: Too Many Jobs, Too Few People.” She is co-producer of Herman Trend Alert, a weekly subscription electronic newsletter received by over 25,000 people in 72 countries. Gioia is also a Professional Member of the World Future Society and a Founding Member of the Association of Professional Futurists. Frequently cited in the news media nationally and regionally, Gioia is internationally respected as an authority on workforce and workplace trends and employee retention. She holds a BA from the University of Denver and an MBA from Fordham University. Gioia serves as president of The Herman Group, a firm of management consultants and workforce futurists based in Greensboro, North Carolina. In connection with her professional focus, she has spoken throughout the United States, as well as Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Mauritius, Brazil, and Bermuda.
